Marketing lessons from movies
I’m a huge movie buff cause there are always so many great marketing ideas you can discover IF you’re paying attention and using the FBQC aka the Income-4-idiots system.
Here is what I’m referring to in a scene from the movie Something About Mary with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz.
Unfortunately this is how most people go about starting a business.
Hitch hiker - So what’s going on with you? Are you a salesman?
Ben Stiller - Um no. I’m nothing.
Hitch hiker - I am. I’m a salesman. I’m gonna start my own company… you want in?
Ben Stiller - Um no. I don’t really have any money.
Hitch hiker - You heard of this thing called the 8 minute abs?
Ben Stiller - Yea sure the 8 minute abs, the exercise video.
Hitch hiker - Well this is gonna blow that right out of the water. Listen to this…. 7 minute abs.
Ben Stiller - Right yes OK alright I see where you’re going with this.
Hitch hiker - Think about it you walk into the video store and you see 8 minute abs sitting there and there’s 7 minute abs right beside it. Which one you gonna pick man?
Ben Stiller - I would go for the 7 minute
Hitch hiker - Bingo man Bingo 7 minute abs and we guarantee just a good a workout as the 8 minute folks.
Ben Stiller - You guarantee it? So how do you do that?
Hitch hiker - If you’re not happy with the first 7 minutes we’re gonna send you the extra minute FREE! See that’s it that’s our motto. That’s where we’re coming from that’s from A to B
Ben Stiller - That’s great that’s good. Unless of course somebody comes up with 6 minute abs then you’re in trouble huh?
Hitch hiker - (twitching his head from side to side like he’s having a convulsion) No no not 6. I said 7. Nobodies coming up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes you won’t even get your heart going. Not even a mouse on a wheel.
Ben Stiller - Good point.
Hitch hiker - 7’s the key number think about it… 7/11, 7 dwarfs, 7 man, 7’s the number. 7 chipmunks twirling on a branch eating lots of sun flowers on my uncle’s ranch. You know that old children’s tale from the sea. It’s like your dreaming about gorgonzola cheese when it’s clearly brie time baby. Step into my office.
Ben Stiller - Why?
Hitch hiker - Cause your f#$$ing fired.
